How Does It Work?

CryoGenic Lipolysis (4D Cryo) is the application of controlled cooling to trigger an inflammatory response within the adipocyte layer, thereby reducing the overall thickness of the fat layer, also known as “Fat Freezing”.

The Cryogenic Lipolysis process selectively cools the cells of the adipose layer, resulting in a condition known as “Popsicle Panniculitis”. This is a dermatologic condition, where exposure to low temperatures can selectively damage subcutaneous fat while leaving skin intact. The result of the cooling is cellular death of the fat cells, through a process called “Apoptosis.”

The 4D-Cryo platform leverages CryoGenic Lipolysis for the cooling phase of the Thermal Shock treatments. Thermal shock warms the tissue prior and immediately following the cooling phase to optimise results, stimulate blood flow and improve customer comfort.

The CryoGenic Lipolysis treatment draws heat out of the fat cells to reach temperatures of -4°C, causing their natural death. As the lipids and fats within the fat cells freeze, hollow hexagonal prism shaped ice crystals form. These ice crystals extend beyond the cell membrane, allowing ions to pass across the cell membrane in an un-controlled manner, resulting in an ionic imbalance within the fat cell. This ionic imbalance causes cellular death to occur and is known as “apoptosis”. However, because lipids and fats crystallise significantly faster and at warmer temperatures than surrounding cells, there is no damage to skin, muscle, nerves, or other tissue. During the approximate 12-week period following treatment, the affected fat cells die, shrink, and are removed through the body’s natural biological processes. This results in a reduction in the fat density in the treated area of between 25 and 40%.

+ - Can I Be Treated?

The good news is that almost everyone can be treated – as long as you are over 18 and capable of doing some exercise after each treatment to burn your bodies “fuel”, laser lipo can be carried out. However, there are some contra-indications where we may not be able to treat you; we have listed these below and urge you to read through carefully. We kindly request that you do not take any offence if you cannot be treated, as this is for your own safety.

Patients with cancer, unless in remission for greater than 2 years
Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (issues with blood flow to heart or brain)
Heart or Lung conditions
Liver or Kidney problems
Infectious diseases
Diagnosed and / or undergoing treatment for any form of mental disorder
Epilepsy
Patients with dermatitis or infection in the treatment place
Patients with a history of significant trauma, or abnormal healing of wounds in the treatment area
Raynaud’s disease or other vasoconstrictive disorders
Immune System Disorders (including AIDS or HIV) or Urticaria
Patients with varicosity in the treatment area, or surrounding areas, suffering from haemophilia, or susceptible to severe bruising
Serious heart disease or hypertension (≥140/90mmHg)
Patients with a history of paralysis or stroke
Patients with abnormal blood coagulation, thrombosis or undertaking anti-coagulant therapy
Patients with peripheral nervous disease, diabetes (Type 1), or connective tissue diseases
Hypoproteinaemia or hyperproteinaemia (high or low levels of protein in the blood)
Patients having received radiation therapy
Pregnancy & immediately following birth (3 months natural birth, 12 months C-Section)
Breast feeding
Artificial implants (bone) in the treatment area
Umbilical hernias, hernias, or weak stomach muscle wall (if treating abdomen)
